Practice, play & have run with like-minded individuals to improve and develop your own game. The aim of the Badminton sessions is to offer individuals over 50 years of age the opportunity to practice and play within a small group, assisted by a coach to improve and develop their game. The coach is qualified to Level 2 and will include individual skill development and game play into the session.
What can I expect from a class? The Badminton sessions will be an hour in length. Each session will compromise of several warm up activities, and then some basics of the game. You will look at correct grip, different Badminton shots and techniques that the coach will work with you to develop. The session will conclude with game play and a series of stretches and warm down activities.
What do I need to bring with me? Bring a drink with you. If you have your own racket, please feel free to use it. If not, its not a problem, there is equipment available for you to use.
I have never played before, is this for me? This group is targeted at beginners or for those that have very little experience playing the game. The idea is that across the duration of the sessions, your ability and confidence will improve, so you will feel comfortable to play recreationally at courts anywhere.
What are the health benefits of playing Badminton? It's can be a great aerobic exercise but the intensity is up to you, it can be energetic or a light workout. The tactics make it a good all round work out for your brain as well. Not only will your brain get a workout, but it will help with flexibility, balance and reaction speed. Your hand to eye coordination is tested as are your reflexes
What else do I need to know? Please come in comfortable clothes, something you can move freely in, and footwear appropriate for use in a Sports Hall. All equipment is provided and free for you to use.
